About Kristin
Kristin Crotty (formerly Paxton) is a mom to twin sons, one of whom - Mason - was diagnosed with dyslexia. He was the first student in Illinois to receive the Take Flight intervention. After seeing how significantly his life was changed, Kristin decided to change careers. She completed two years of training in academic language therapy through McKinney Christian Academy hosted at The Written Word Center for Dyslexia and Learning. Kristin completed 700 clinical hours and passed the national certification exam at the therapy level. She went on to earn the Mount Saint Joseph University Graduate School of Education Certificate in Reading Science, a one-year program. She has been working as a dyslexia therapist since 2017.

Kristin founded the Dyslexia Buddy Network, a 501c3, in 2014 to help her Mason understand that he wasn’t the only child with dyslexia. She led the nonprofit for eight years, growing its reach to over 400 families in Illinois. The nonprofit helped hundreds of children through its thirty-five events, and was an important resource for parents as well.
Kristin wrote and produced the short film What I Wish Teachers Knew About Dyslexia, with the director of the film Embracing Dyslexia. It has been watched more than 123,000 times and shown at numerous conferences for educators.
